For the Selcuks, the affinity was the gentle weather, the good harbor, and its relation closeness to Konya, the Selcuk capital .
For today’s tourists it’s the long extends of sand sandy beaches the moderately hot waters of Turkey’s Mediterranean seaboard area, and the deep annals of the town.
Alanya has developed unbelievably throughout the past ten years, and now brags a community of more than 250,000, which should twice throughout the summer tourist season.
Many tourists go by plane into Antalya aerodrome on cheap bundle holidays, then coach to Alanya. Lots of new inns have been constructed to cater to the bundle trade.
While you’re here, visit the huge Selcuk fortress which overrides the village from its promontory; the big, octagonal Selcuk Kizilkule (Red Tower); and the Tersane (ship yard).
The dank air of Damlatas Cave, said to be beneficial to asthma sufferers, but with hordes of visitors exhaling warm carbon dio into the humid, already-stuffy air, I have my doubts….
But of course Alanya’s large-scale affinity is its sandy coastlines, long swaths of sand to west and east.
